A shocking incident unfolded at a hospital where a female staff member, falsely claiming pregnancy, allegedly tried to abduct a newborn baby. The unsettling event took place at a maternity hospital in Teresina, Brazil, where Auricelia de Sousa Rocha, a nursing technician on medical leave, managed to infiltrate the premises disguised in scrubs. Rocha was apprehended following CCTV footage capturing her walking with the infant at Evangelina Rosa Maternity Hospital.

According to the baby’s aunt, Daniela Beatriz, Rocha approached the new mother shortly after delivery, insisting that the baby required a routine heel prick test. Beatriz recounted accompanying Rocha to another floor as the technician led her away from the mother’s room under the pretense of the examination. Subsequently, Rocha allegedly attempted to flee with the baby concealed in a large black bag after asking Beatriz to wait outside a room where she changed attire.

Surveillance footage depicted a figure in scrubs carrying a black bag and a baby wrapped in a red blanket before another person intervened, preventing the attempted abduction. In a statement to CNN Brazil, Beatriz confronted Rocha, who claimed to be a hospital employee but evasively denied any wrongdoing when questioned.

Authorities discovered a prepared nursery setup at Rocha’s residence, including baby essentials like clothes, diapers, a crib, and a bathtub. Rocha had reportedly deceived her family by fabricating a pregnancy, although failing to provide any medical evidence. Despite claims of Rocha’s mental health condition affecting her judgment, law enforcement maintained that such issues would not excuse her alleged criminal actions.
