The family of a 19-year-old kayaker, Michael Henry, who is presumed deceased after an incident off the coast of Northumberland, has honored him as a cherished son. Michael and a companion were in a kayak that overturned near Boulmer in Northumberland on July 7. While the other individual made it to safety with the help of the coastguard, extensive search efforts by Northumbria Police did not locate Michael. Regrettably, it is believed that he perished at sea.

In a heartfelt message, Michael’s family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support they have received. They described Michael as a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, teammate, and friend, highlighting his passion for sports and the outdoors. Michael had plans for summer travel and hoped to begin university next year. His family emphasized that he will always be remembered and deeply missed.

Chief Inspector Jon Caisley conveyed his condolences to Michael’s loved ones, acknowledging the sorrowful news of Michael’s presumed passing. Despite exhaustive search operations, Michael remains unaccounted for and is presumed lost at sea, causing profound sadness for his family and the community. The efforts of emergency services and volunteers in the search were acknowledged, with a plea for privacy for the grieving family during this challenging time.
