Authorities have shared surveillance footage of an individual they wish to talk to following an alleged assault on a woman in the subway.
The incident occurred when the woman, traveling alone on a Bakerloo Line train between Waterloo and Lambeth North, was reportedly attacked around 11:40 pm on Saturday, July 11.
According to a statement from the British Transport Police, a man approached the woman, exposed himself, dragged her to the ground, and attempted to assault her.
The woman managed to resist and fled the train at Lambeth North station, where she promptly sought help from station staff.
The assailant stayed on the train and disembarked at Elephant and Castle Underground station, as confirmed by the police.
Investigators have released CCTV images of the man in question, seeking public assistance in identifying him to aid in their inquiry. The individual in the images has not been charged with any crimes.
Efforts are ongoing to trace the man’s movements, with indications that he was present at Oxford Circus Underground station before the incident and at Piccadilly Circus Underground station afterward.
Detective Sergeant Krishan Appannah of the BTP stated, “Our team is providing support to the victim in the aftermath of this appalling event. We recognize the gravity of such incidents and urge the public to help us identify the individual captured in the CCTV footage. There is a possibility that he might be homeless.”
“Anyone who can recognize the person in the images is urged to text us his name at 61016, quoting reference 948 of 11 July. He could possess crucial information that would aid our ongoing investigation,” Appannah added.
Individuals with information or witnesses are encouraged to reach out to the British Transport Police at 0800 40 50 40 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111.
