“Wonderwall” by Oasis Inches Closer to Number One

The popular hit track “Wonderwall” by Oasis is poised to climb to the number one position on the official charts following its widespread adoption during England’s successful World Cup campaign. Fans and players alike have embraced this iconic song, which was featured on the album “What’s The Story Morning Glory,” using it as a celebratory anthem at the end of matches.

Despite being the highest-selling single by a UK artist to have never reached the top spot, “Wonderwall” reached number two in 1995, narrowly missing out on the number one position to Robson & Jerome’s “I Believe.”

Having emerged as an unofficial anthem that has brought together England supporters, “Wonderwall” has surged back into the charts with the backing of Oasis themselves. Liam Gallagher, one of the band’s founding members, expressed his support for the song on social media, urging England on with the words “C’mon England c’mon Wonderwall.”

According to the Official Charts, “Wonderwall” is expected to climb nine places to number two this week, propelled by its newfound association with England’s journey in the tournament. Meanwhile, “Three Lions” by David Baddiel, Frank Skinner, and the Lightning Seeds is anticipated to secure the number three spot.

Players have shared their enthusiasm for “Wonderwall” becoming an official anthem, with Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice recalling the special moment when fans sang the song in unison after a game.

Notably, Oasis member Noel Gallagher previously noted that “Wonderwall” belongs to the people and highlighted the magical connection between fans and players during this musical experience.

However, the track will need to surpass the current chart-topper, Sam Fender and Olivia Dean’s “Rein Me In,” which is holding steady at number one and is set to mark its 17th non-consecutive week in that position.

“Rein Me In” has been a massive success since its release in 2025, recently breaking a 32-year-old record previously held by Scottish band Wet Wet Wet. By maintaining its reign at the top for 16 weeks, the duo surpassed the previous record set by Wet Wet Wet’s “Love Is All Around,” which spent 15 weeks at number one.
