An 11-year-old boy tragically passed away after attempting to cross the road to reach his mother and getting hit by traffic. Seth Fulton, aged 11, was riding his bicycle on the sidewalk along Nottingham Road in Chaddesden, Derby, on April 17. Upon spotting his mother on the opposite side of the road, he made the decision to cross over, as revealed during an inquest.
Unfortunately, he was struck by a bus, which propelled him into the path of a VW Polo. Seth succumbed to his injuries later that same day at the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham. Following an investigation, Susan Evans, the coroner for Derby and Derbyshire, determined that it was deemed unsafe for Seth to attempt to cross the road. She also stated that both the VW Polo driver and the bus driver did not have enough time to prevent the collision.
The final verdict from Ms. Evans confirmed that Seth’s death resulted from a road traffic incident, with the cause of death cited as a traumatic head injury. The inquest report detailed the events leading to the tragic accident, highlighting Seth’s attempt to cross the road unsafely and the subsequent collision with the vehicles.
In a statement issued by Derbyshire Police after the incident, Seth’s parents described him as a vibrant and inquisitive child who cherished life and nature. They fondly recalled his adventurous spirit, love for skateboarding and BMX riding, as well as his joyful and compassionate personality. Seth was deeply loved by his family and friends, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.
