The UK is set to experience a decline in temperatures as the third heatwave of 2026 concludes, according to the Met Office. Three scorching spells this year have resulted in record-breaking temperatures, causing an increase in fires and health issues. However, forecasters anticipate a relief from the heat soon.
In the latest Deep Dive weather forecast by the Met Office on YouTube, meteorologist Aidan McGivern explains that a change in high pressure will lead to a decrease in peak temperatures over the weekend. By Sunday, temperatures are expected to be slightly lower, although still above average.
McGivern mentioned that temperatures will gradually cool off throughout the week, with the high pressure system allowing for milder conditions. The forecast indicates mid to high-20s temperatures for the weekend, with the warmest regions anticipated to be Wales and the south-west.
The morning forecast from the Met Office predicts highs of 29C in southern areas on Saturday and 24C in the north. By Sunday, peak temperatures are forecasted to drop to 25C in the south and 22C in the north. BBC weather forecasters also foresee a decrease in temperatures towards the end of the week, with a possibility of rain in some areas.
The BBC forecast suggests that Friday will be cooler, with variable cloud cover in the north and sunny conditions elsewhere. Saturday is expected to bring more cloud, especially in northern and eastern regions, with a chance of light rain or drizzle along the North Sea coast. Sunday is likely to be dry with variable cloud cover, and a chance of isolated showers in western England.
