On a recent visit to a Dorset brewery, King Charles expressed that it was a fitting moment to drown some sorrows with a pint of beer after England’s disappointing loss to Argentina. The King, accompanied by Queen Camilla, received a warm reception from the crowd at Hall and Woodhouse brewery near Blandford Forum.
After being given a demo on pouring a pint by Toby Heasman, the head brewer, Charles was urged to be faster in his technique. With Camilla’s assistance, the King humorously remarked that they might need to try again as the pint was not yet filled to the brim.
Despite some playful banter between the royal couple, Charles successfully poured a pint of ‘Fursty Ferret’ beer, receiving cheers and applause from the brewery staff. Jokingly lifting the almost full glass, the King suggested that it was indeed a good day to enjoy a drink and lift spirits, which garnered a positive response from the audience.
Moreover, Charles and Camilla commemorated the brewery’s 250th anniversary by unveiling a plaque. The King praised the longstanding family ownership of the brewery, now managed by the ninth generation of the family.
During their visit, the royal couple also met with representatives from Teddy Rocks, a music festival supported by the brewery, which raises funds for children’s cancer charities. They learned about the festival’s growth from its inception, now attracting thousands of attendees and raising significant donations for charitable causes.
In a meeting with brewery staff, Charles was presented with a special bottle of the brewery’s Coronation Ale, specially crafted for the upcoming 2023 Coronation event. Meanwhile, the Queen engaged with apprentice chefs and learned about the brewery’s chef apprentice program, expressing her interest in the culinary creations.
The day concluded with a warm farewell as the Queen was presented with a bouquet of flowers and met with the younger generations of the family involved in the brewery’s operations. Later, the royal couple visited the historic Corn Exchange in Blandford Forum, admiring its recent renovation and engaging with various charitable organizations showcasing their work in the local community.
