A 17-year-old student from a London school passed away during a snorkeling activity in Malawi. Malawi Police Service identified the student as Eugene Enoch Kwon, a student at Hampton School in south-west London.
The incident occurred when students from the school were snorkeling at Lake Malawi in Cape Maclear, Monkey Bay. Eugene went missing during the activity and was later discovered underwater by divers who conducted an extensive search of the lake. Despite being rushed to Monkey Bay Community Hospital, he succumbed to suffocation caused by drowning, according to the police.
Superintendent Patrick Mussa of the Eastern Region Police Headquarters confirmed that an immediate search operation was launched upon Eugene’s disappearance, leading to the discovery of his body underwater. The police have extended their condolences to the grieving family while investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Hampton School, a private boys’ school in Richmond upon Thames, verified the tragic loss of one of its students during the camping trip. They expressed deep sympathy and support for the student’s family and the affected school community during this challenging time.
