The sunny weather is expected to continue with a busy summer travel period on the horizon, according to the latest forecasts. Over the past 11 days, temperatures in the UK have consistently exceeded 30C, and this hot spell is anticipated to persist for another seven to 10 days. The RAC has projected that approximately 14.1 million drivers will hit the roads for vacations or day trips between Friday and Sunday, marking the second-highest volume of travelers since data tracking began in 2016.
As schools in England and Wales prepare for summer holidays, and with Scotland and Northern Ireland already on break, the upcoming weekend is predicted to be particularly hectic for road travel. The RAC anticipates Saturday to be the busiest day for getaway journeys, with an estimated 3.8 million trips planned, while Friday and Sunday are expected to see 3.4 million journeys each. Additionally, around 6.8 million excursions are anticipated over the three-day period, with many drivers still undecided on their specific travel day.
According to Met Office spokesman Graham Madge, the current pleasant weather conditions are likely to persist for the next week to 10 days, with plenty of sunshine and dry spells expected over the weekend. However, there may be isolated showers and a slight drop in temperatures. The continuation of the heatwave beyond the next 10 days remains uncertain, although some areas may experience heatwave conditions until the end of the week.
Met Office’s deputy chief meteorologist, David Hayter, stated that the UK has recently been experiencing temperatures exceeding 30C daily, with a high-pressure system prolonging the warm weather. While a shift in weather patterns may bring cooler temperatures, certain locations may still experience heatwave conditions towards the end of the week. The likelihood of the ongoing heatwave lasting further depends on sustained high temperatures in London and the rest of the country.
This summer has seen above-average temperatures and warm nights across Britain, with England experiencing temperatures 2.4C higher than the usual 21C. Wales is also above its average temperature, while Scotland and Northern Ireland are slightly above their seasonal norms. As the warm weather continues, Britons are advised to stay hydrated and take necessary precautions to stay cool and safe.
