BBC Radio and Desert Island Discs personality Lauren Laverne has disclosed that she has been diagnosed with a condition that could progress into blood cancer, following her previous battle with cancer.

The 48-year-old broadcaster shared the news on social media, emphasizing that while she is currently feeling well and not in need of treatment, she wanted to be transparent about her situation to offer support to others facing similar challenges.

Laverne revealed her diagnosis of smoldering myeloma, a blood and bone marrow disorder that can potentially evolve into blood cancer. Despite the condition being chronic and incurable, she reassured her followers that the likelihood of it developing into cancer in her case is low.

Expressing gratitude for the care she has received, Laverne highlighted the importance of discussing health issues openly to assist others. She mentioned that due to the diagnosis, her immune system is compromised, necessitating ongoing monitoring with MRIs and bone biopsies.
