An elderly couple, Colin and Claudette Geraghty, who have run away from a care facility in Melbourne, Australia, are still missing after a week. Their daughter, Linda McKelvie, is urging them to return to the Ryman Nellie Melba Retirement Village. The couple was located in Maryborough, approximately 118 miles away from the care home.
Despite being found, Colin, 89, and Claudette, 83, are currently staying in a motel and have refused to go back to the care home. Linda stated that her father is intelligent and resourceful, managing to evade those trying to find them. She emphasized the importance of the care home’s support for her parents, who have been married for 65 years.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Linda revealed that her parents are adamant about staying in the motel, expressing dissatisfaction with the care home’s arrangements. Despite the challenging situation, she commended their strong bond and mutual care for each other. Linda acknowledged that this was not the first time they attempted an escape, citing previous incidents.
Claudette’s health condition, including seizures and vascular dementia, led to their transfer to an aged-care facility, which unsettled the couple. Despite the concerns raised by their family, the pair seems determined to remain where they are. Colin assured his family of their safety in a message sent after their disappearance, indicating his commitment to looking after Claudette.
The family continues to worry about the couple’s well-being and has been pleading with them to return to the care facility. However, Colin and Claudette have chosen to stay in the motel, with Colin reassuring his family that they are safe under his care.
