England has officially announced the appointment of Stephen Fleming as the new Test head coach, coinciding with Joe Root’s return for his second term as captain. The decision came after Brendon McCullum was reassigned to focus solely on limited-overs cricket, following England’s Test Series loss to New Zealand.

Fleming, known for his successful tenure as New Zealand’s Test captain and his association with Chennai Super Kings, brings a wealth of experience to the role. His familiarity with English county cricket, having played for Middlesex, Yorkshire, and Nottinghamshire, including a County Championship win in 2005, adds to his credentials.

Additionally, Fleming led Southern Brave to The Hundred men’s competition final in 2023. His new role with England will commence after the ongoing Test Series against Pakistan, with Marcus Trescothick serving as the interim Head Coach for the time being.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the position, Fleming stated, “I’m thrilled to be joining England as Test Coach, a prestigious role in world cricket.
