The creator of Princess Diana’s wedding gown has replicated the late princess’s 40-foot veil, more than 40 years after the original went missing.

Elizabeth Emanuel has remade the famous embroidered veil, which she and her husband David designed for Diana’s marriage to the then Prince Charles at St Paul’s Cathedral in 1981.

While Diana’s wedding dress has been exhibited at Kensington Palace and Althorp House, her veil has been absent from the displays until now.

Renae Plant, the founder of the Princess Diana Museum, has enlisted Ms. Emanuel to recreate the veil for the 45th anniversary of the royal wedding.

Ms. Emanuel shared unseen photos on Instagram of artisans creating the original gown in her studio in 1981, reflecting on the memories of that time.

In an interview with People magazine, Ms. Emanuel described the veil as the ‘Veil of Light,’ emphasizing its importance in completing Diana’s bridal look and preserving her memory.

To ensure accuracy, Ms. Emanuel collaborated with Hand & Lock, an embroidery house in London that crafted the original veil, and obtained the original measurements used in the 1981 creation.

Ms. Plant plans to showcase the collection featuring the recreated veil on a tour in Autumn, offering the public a rare opportunity to view this piece for the first time.

David and Elizabeth Emanuel maintained secrecy around Diana’s gown design, destroying sketches after showing them to Diana and creating a backup dress to prevent any leaks before the wedding.

Diana never saw the backup dress, crafted with the same fabric and featuring similar details as the original gown.
