A US politician was recently filmed at a Hawaiian beach in his underwear, yelling and brandishing a knife in a confrontation with beachgoers who had asked him to lower his music volume. Kirill Basin, aged 40, lost his temper at Keawakapu Beach in South Kihei on Maui Island.

In the video, Basin is seen approaching a group of beachgoers and making threatening remarks before being punched and knocked unconscious by a tattooed man during a scuffle. Upon regaining consciousness, Basin was warned by the man to watch his language and then engaged in more heated exchanges, even allegedly pulling out a knife which he later discarded into the sea. Eyewitnesses reported that Basin also claimed to possess a gun, which the police later recovered.

Following the incident, Basin was the only individual arrested and has been charged with two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening, with a bail set at $1 million. Basin is slated to contest against Republican Jill Tokuda for Hawaii’s second congressional district on August 8, but it remains uncertain if he will still be in custody by then. This is not Basin’s first encounter with legal issues, as he had previously threatened Maui County workers with a gun in May, resulting in his arrest for first-degree terroristic threatening.

It appears that the recent beach incident is linked to a prior incident that Basin mentioned on social media a day before his arrest, where he claimed to have been mistreated by the police. In an Instagram post, Basin alleged police brutality and vowed legal action against the officers involved.
