“Tate McRae on Political Silence & Values”

Published on

In a recent interview with Variety, Tate McRae addressed the curiosity surrounding her political viewpoints. The 23-year-old Canadian pop sensation touched on why she refrains from openly discussing her political stance. This curiosity arose following her collaboration with U.S. country singer Morgan Wallen in 2025 and gained momentum during the 2026 Winter Olympics, where she supported Team USA and was linked romantically to NHL player Jack Hughes.

McRae emphasized that while she may not vocalize her political beliefs, she communicates her values through the causes she supports and the atmosphere she cultivates during her tours. Notably, the singer’s merchandise store featured a “Little Miss Possessive” hoodie, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting organizations like The Trevor Project and the Global Fund for Women.

The conversation around McRae’s political inclinations initially sparked after her collaboration with Wallen on the hit song “What I Want” in May 2025. Wallen faced backlash in 2021 after a video surfaced of him using a racial slur. Despite this, Wallen has not publicly aligned himself with MAGA or endorsed former President Donald Trump.

Speculation resurfaced earlier this year when McRae appeared in an NBC ad supporting the 2026 U.S. Winter Olympics team, leading to accusations of betrayal from some quarters. Additionally, rumors swirled about her relationship with Hughes, who visited the White House following the U.S. men’s hockey team’s gold medal victory at the same Olympics.

McRae seems unfazed by the online chatter, expressing a desire to keep her personal life private and shielded from external noise. She values the positivity and support within her inner circle and chooses not to dwell on matters beyond her control, focusing instead on maintaining a positive mindset.
