Annapolis Valley Man Faces Attempted Murder Charges

Published on

An individual from Annapolis Valley has been charged with attempted murder and multiple weapons offenses following a shooting incident involving a woman known to the suspect who sustained critical injuries and was promptly taken to the hospital. Ryan Alexander Cole, aged 36, appeared briefly in Nova Scotia Provincial Court on Monday, with his case adjourned until August 25, while he remains in custody. The incident unfolded on a Saturday morning in South Farmington within the Annapolis Valley region, prompting a police response to a reported shooting. The suspect left the scene driving a damaged Mazda sedan towards Halifax.

Law enforcement pursued the suspect, making several attempts to intercept him, including deploying a spike belt on the highway. Despite evading the deflation device, the man was eventually located via aerial tracking after the Mazda collided with a tree while attempting to navigate a hiking trail behind a shopping complex in Bedford, a suburb of Halifax. The suspect then fled on foot, leading to the issuance of an initial localized alert by the RCMP in Bedford and subsequently an emergency alert across Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) as his whereabouts remained unknown.

RCMP Cpl. Mandy Edwards emphasized the public safety risk involved when dealing with an armed suspect, highlighting the collaborative efforts of police dog units from both the RCMP and Halifax Regional Police, as well as the emergency response teams from both agencies, in effecting the suspect’s apprehension. Although confirming a relationship between Cole and the victim, Edwards could not provide specifics on the nature of their association. Cole’s criminal history, dating back to 2008, includes numerous charges such as breaching release conditions, disarming a police officer, resisting arrest, and unauthorized sharing of intimate images.
