“Foundation of Hope Expands Addiction Treatment Services”

Published on

In southwestern Ontario, the Foundation of Hope is addressing the gaps in addiction treatment by providing essential services to those in need. Founded in Leamington four years ago under the Quiring umbrella foundation, the organization initially offered hot meals and pantry items for drop-ins as part of its recovery-focused approach.

Recently, the Chatham-Kent council approved the handover of the former Meadow Park Nursing Home to the Foundation of Hope. Located at 110 Sandys St. in Chatham, the property will be transformed into a stabilization site. This site will serve as temporary accommodation for individuals post-detox while they await longer-term treatment, aligning with the foundation’s broader vision of offering a comprehensive seven-step path from addiction to stable, independent living.

The foundation currently runs various recovery programs with 119 recovery beds dispersed throughout the region, with plans for further expansion. The initiative garnered praise from Chatham-Kent councillors during a recent meeting, emphasizing the positive impact on vulnerable residents and the community as a whole.

Robert Sandwith, overseeing the recovery care project and a person in recovery himself, highlighted the necessity of immediate access to recovery services. The foundation’s efforts have already assisted approximately 1,300 individuals in the region, with Spencer Dawson, also in recovery, serving as the project manager.

Focusing on fundraising efforts within local communities, the organization aims to provide safe and accessible accommodation, emphasizing their Christian values and commitment to serving those in need.
