Calgary police have taken legal action against an individual in connection with an incident that resulted in the death of a pedestrian and serious injuries to two individuals in 2025. The man, operating a pickup truck, was reported to have been driving in the wrong direction on 52nd Street N.E. on July 21 of the previous year, striking a female pedestrian in her 50s, who tragically passed away at the scene. The truck proceeded southbound in the northbound lanes, colliding with an SUV driven by a woman in her 30s and a male passenger aged 35. Both occupants sustained life-threatening injuries but have since been discharged from the hospital and are recuperating, as confirmed by law enforcement. Following the collision, the pickup truck caught fire, and the driver was hospitalized with severe injuries. Rami Hamdan, aged 26, was apprehended on Tuesday and charged with one count of criminal dangerous driving resulting in death and two counts of criminal dangerous driving causing bodily harm. His next court appearance is scheduled for August 28.
