A driver, Brandon Palmer, found himself trapped on his way home to Skagway, Alaska, as two rock slides cascaded down the South Klondike Highway. Palmer described the frightening scene of watermelon-sized rocks bouncing across the road, ultimately blocking his path.

The rock slides occurred on Tuesday night, leading to the closure of the South Klondike Highway between Carcross and the Yukon-B.C. border. Bobbie Milnes, assistant deputy minister of transportation, mentioned that the highway might remain closed until the weekend and could potentially reopen with limited lanes.

Geologists are investigating the cause and extent of the slides near the Conrad campground. Milnes confirmed that one of the slides covered both lanes, rendering the section impassable. Fortunately, crews managed to clear a path through the unaffected ditch to assist stranded vehicles.

Despite the disruption, there have been no reported injuries. However, businesses like Wild Adventure Yukon are feeling the impact, especially with the tourism flow disrupted due to the highway closure.

Palmer, the driver who faced the rock slides, recounted his nerve-wracking experience of clearing a path through the debris to continue his journey. He expressed gratitude for being in a safe spot amidst the chaos, describing the encounter as a unique and fortunate event.
