The RCMP has reported the arrest of a minor in Montreal in connection with terrorism allegations. According to a news release issued on Friday, the RCMP indicated that the individual had been planning an attack targeting a school in the city. The suspect is said to have utilized artificial intelligence in the potential planning of the attack and to have disseminated threatening messages on the platform Telegram, targeting various groups such as Muslims, Haitians, and the 2SLGBTQ+ communities, as stated by RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Érique Gasse. Gasse mentioned that the FBI provided tips a few weeks ago alerting them to the individual’s attack plans.

The arrest took place at the suspect’s residence on Friday morning as part of an investigation by the Integrated National Security Enforcement Team, which focuses on tracking and disrupting criminal activities related to terrorist groups or individuals posing a threat to Canada’s national security.

The individual is currently being interviewed by investigators, while other officials are conducting a search of his residence for electronic devices or any items relevant to the investigation. The police operation aimed to disrupt the suspected activities of the individual and to potentially obtain a peace bond for monitoring and de-escalation purposes.

According to Gasse, the suspect is set to appear in youth court on Saturday morning, with the possibility of facing charges at a later date.
