Canada’s Tyler Mislawchuk clinched the bronze medal at the World Triathlon Championship Series event held in Weihai, China, on Saturday. The 32-year-old athlete from Oak Bluff, Manitoba, completed the race in one hour, 41 minutes, and 25 seconds. Max Studer from Switzerland secured the gold medal with a time of 1:41:08, while Spain’s David Campero Del Campo finished just seven seconds ahead of Mislawchuk to claim the silver.
Mislawchuk started strong with an 18:39 timing in the 1.5-kilometer swim, followed by a 51:53 completion of the 38.6-kilometer bike course. He then finished the last leg, a 10km run, in 29:35. Expressing his joy, Mislawchuk stated, “It’s been seven years with a lot of close calls, but there is nothing like being on the WTCS podium while going up against the best guys in the world. I saw an opportunity today, and three kilometers into the run I went for it. The whole last five kilometers, I kept saying this is what you train for every day. It feels good to do it at the top level.”
Unfortunately, fellow Canadian Liam Donnelly did not finish the race. In the women’s category, Canada’s Desirae Ridenour achieved her career-best eighth-place finish for the second consecutive season. The 26-year-old athlete from Cowichan Bay, British Columbia, completed the race in 1:50:58. France’s Cassandre Beaugrand secured the gold medal with a time of 1:49:20, followed by Beth Potter from Great Britain in second place at 1:49:26, and Germany’s Lisa Tertsch in third place at 1:49:44. Emy Legault from L’Île Perrot, Quebec, finished in 30th place with a time of 1:55:54.
