A’ja Wilson led the Las Vegas Aces to a 93-73 victory over the Toronto Tempo on Friday night with 27 points and eight rebounds. Jackie Young contributed 23 points and eight assists without any turnovers, while Chelsea Gray added 11 points. This game marked the Aces’ first appearance without NaLyssa Smith, who sustained a season-ending left leg injury in their previous match against Toronto.
On the Toronto side, Isabelle Harrison scored 15 points, Laura Juskaite had 14, Kia Nurse put up 12 points, and both Kiki Rice and Kiana Williams contributed 10 points each. Despite their efforts, Toronto fell short against the Aces.
Following this win, the Aces (27-13) maintained their one-game lead for third place in the WNBA playoff race, staying ahead of Indiana (26-14), which defeated Connecticut 111-91 in their latest game.
Jackie Young’s three-point shot broke an early tie, propelling Las Vegas to take control of the game. The Aces held a lead throughout the match, finishing the first quarter ahead 27-17. Their strong shooting performance continued into the second quarter, allowing them to build a commanding 56-39 halftime lead.
Although Las Vegas cooled off from three-point range in the second quarter, shooting 1-for-6, they still maintained a solid 50 percent shooting rate overall (18-for-36). Toronto struggled with personal fouls in the first half, committing 12 fouls, which the Aces capitalized on by converting 13 of 14 free throws.
Looking ahead, the Toronto Tempo are scheduled to play against the Phoenix Mercury on Saturday, while the Las Vegas Aces will face the Seattle Storm on Thursday, Sept. 17.
