Search and rescue authorities have located an aircraft in the Kawartha Lakes region where a pilot was reported missing following a flight in the area last week. The Trenton Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC), responsible for coordinating search and rescue missions in Ontario, announced on social media platform X that a plane was discovered on Wolf Lake in Queen Elizabeth II Provincial Park, approximately a 45-minute drive north of the Kawartha Lakes municipality.
The situation has been handed over to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) as a missing person’s case, according to the JRCC. While the pilot, identified by police as David, remains missing, it was not explicitly confirmed if the located plane belonged to the 73-year-old individual.
Durham police revealed in a previous statement on X that David departed from Oshawa Airport in the aircraft at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, with an expected return time of 9:30 a.m. It was noted that he typically flies in the region south of Kawartha Lakes township and north of Lake Scugog.
The Ontario Provincial Police had described the plane as a small blue homemade aircraft with the tail marked “FOFZ.” David, characterized as an experienced pilot standing at five feet seven inches tall with a slender build, possesses black grey hair and a moustache.
