“Hologram of Late Punjabi Rapper Wows Fans in Toronto”

Ravinder Sidhu and his sister Nav journeyed from India to Toronto to attend Sidhu Moose Wala’s Signed to God world tour debut at Scotiabank Arena last Friday, spending $550 each on tickets. They anticipated a unique and exceptional show.

The Punjabi rapper, who initiated his music career in Canada, tragically passed away in 2022 after being targeted by gunmen near his hometown in Northern India. To replace Moose Wala on stage, a hologram was used during the performance, testing the technology’s capacity to provide a remarkable fan experience at a premium cost.

Expressing his excitement outside the venue, Ravinder stated, “Maybe it will be futuristic. We can’t put it into words. We’re extremely thrilled.”

Another fan, Harry Singh, disclosed that he paid $270 for his ticket and traveled from California. Singh commented on the rising ticket prices close to the event, emphasizing the importance of purchasing tickets early to secure a lower price.

Tickets for the Toronto show were listed online for nearly $2,000 before taxes and fees, with similar prices expected for the upcoming Vancouver event. Singh shared his anticipation for the realistic appearance of the hologram concert.

Following the show, Singh mentioned that an unreleased song titled “Rebirth” was performed, along with a stage appearance by the late rapper’s younger brother. Singh’s video from the event captured the audience singing along with the hologram of Moose Wala.

Sidhu Moose Wala gained fame while residing and studying as an international student in Brampton, Ontario, a city with a significant Punjabi diaspora. His music often paid tribute to Brampton, with his track “B-Town” serving as a direct homage.

The rise of digital-first performances, exemplified by events like Abba Voyage in London, featuring digital avatars of the iconic pop group, indicates a shift in the music industry. Alan Cross, a music journalist and historian, highlights the growing trend of holographic concerts driven by aging rock stars, changing ownership of musical catalogs, and a digitally savvy audience.

Proto, a Los Angeles-based hologram company, is working on bringing deceased stars back to life through advanced holographic technology. Their efforts include recreating stars like Ozzy Osbourne as “agentic AI avatars,” capable of interacting with fans in multiple languages.

The utilization of holographic technology for entertainment purposes has evolved significantly over the years, with advancements in artificial intelligence enhancing the quality and realism of holographic experiences. The evolving technology aims to seamlessly integrate lifelike holograms into various industries, offering interactive and engaging experiences to audiences.

As holographic technology continues to progress, the potential for consumers to enjoy holographic experiences at home is on the horizon, indicating a future where advanced 3D AI capabilities could be integrated into everyday multimedia devices like smartphones.
