Atlético Madrid has secured a loan deal for Canadian forward Jonathan David from Juventus in Italy for the upcoming season, as confirmed by both clubs on Tuesday. The 26-year-old hailing from Ottawa featured in 46 matches for Juventus last season, netting eight goals, and has also played in one game at the start of the current season.
David will be vying for playing time in Madrid alongside Julián Alvarez and Alexander Sørloth, who have been sidelined due to a muscle injury. Prior to his move to Juventus in 2025, David amassed 109 goals in 232 games for Lille in France, clinching Ligue 1 and the French Super Cup titles.
As Canada’s leading men’s scorer with 42 goals, David is set to join Atlético Ottawa in the Canadian Premier League, his hometown club’s parent team. Madrid’s upcoming fixtures include a match against Athletic Club on Saturday and a Champions League clash against Liverpool on September 9.
