Prince Andrew made a surprise appearance at the funeral of the Duchess of Kent, marking a rare occurrence. He was spotted arriving at Westminster Cathedral in London alongside Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York. Onlookers were taken aback as the duo swiftly entered the cathedral. Notable members of the Royal Family, including King Charles III and the Prince and Princess of Wales, were also present for the service. Unfortunately, Queen Camilla had to bow out of the event due to illness.

Prior to the funeral, Andrew and Fergie were seen departing from their residence at Royal Lodge in Windsor with a police escort. Upon their arrival, Andrew was warmly greeted by the clergy waiting outside. His public engagements were significantly impacted by his association with American financier Jeffrey Epstein, leading to the termination of his public role similar to former UK ambassador to the US Lord Peter Mandelson.

Prince Michael of Kent, the Duke of Kent’s brother, arrived at the church for the funeral mass, showing signs of frailty and relying on a walking aid. Accompanied by his wife, Princess Michael of Kent, and their daughter Lady Gabriella Windsor, they led a group of royals dressed in mourning attire, including Lord Frederick Windsor and Lady Sophie Windsor, with some arriving together by minibus.

The Duchess, who was married to a cousin of Queen Elizabeth II, will be laid to rest later in the day. This event marks the first Catholic funeral for a Royal Family member in modern history. The private service will include a message from Pope Leo.

Buckingham Palace confirmed the duchess’s peaceful passing at her Kensington Palace residence on September 4, surrounded by her family. In a statement, the Palace expressed deep sorrow over her death and highlighted her lifelong dedication to various organizations, love for music, and compassion for young people.
