King Charles recently disclosed that he had to give up a cherished hobby that has been a long-standing tradition in the royal family. This hobby, which involved annual winter skiing trips with Princess Diana and their sons, Princes William and Harry, has now been passed down to the next generation.
During an official visit earlier this year, King Charles expressed his belief that his skiing days are over at the age of 77. His annual ski trips were reportedly halted in 2023 due to concerns about potential injuries before his coronation in May that year. Subsequently, his cancer diagnosis in early February prevented him from engaging in activity-filled holidays.
The royal family, including William and Harry, used to frequent Klosters in the Swiss Alps for winter vacations, occasionally accompanied by cousins Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice. Notably, a ski trip in March 2005 gained attention when a microphone captured Charles criticizing a BBC royal correspondent.
In the past, William and Harry, alongside Charles, visited the Whistler resort in Canada for a ski trip following Princess Diana’s passing. Diana had a preference for taking the boys to Lech in Austria before her death, where she famously defended her children’s privacy from photographers.
Presently, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge enjoy skiing with their children, George, Charlotte, and Louis. It is anticipated that the family will continue this tradition, with the children likely becoming skilled skiers due to their exposure to the activity from a young age. William and Kate’s relationship was first publicly recognized during a skiing trip to Klosters in 2004.
The couple has revisited Klosters several times since then, occasionally skiing with members of the Middleton family. In 2012, William surprised Kate with a trip to Verbier in the Swiss Alps to make up for missing Valentine’s Day after an extended period away with the RAF.
