“Fix Cold Radiators for 97p: Expert Tips from British Gas”

Published on

A specialist from British Gas has detailed a simple fix for cold spots in radiators, suggesting a cost-effective tool priced at only 97p. If you notice cold areas, gurgling sounds, or slow heating in your radiator, bleeding it could be the solution. To perform this task, you will require a radiator key, available for purchase at Screwfix for as little as 97p. Before starting the process, it is essential to turn off the heating and ensure the radiator has cooled down to avoid any risks of burns.

To bleed the radiator, locate the valve and carefully turn it anti-clockwise using the key while listening for a hissing sound, indicating the release of trapped air. Once water starts coming out, use a container to catch it before tightening the valve and moving on to the next radiator. It is crucial not to over-bleed the radiator to prevent a significant drop in boiler pressure. If issues persist, contacting a gas safe registered engineer is recommended.

In another energy-saving tip, British Gas engineer Jessica Rawstron suggests leaving the oven door open after cooking to utilize the residual heat. This method can help warm your kitchen and maintain a cozy atmosphere while eating. However, precautions should be taken to keep children and pets away from the open oven door.

Recently, energy bills have increased, with the average household paying approximately £1,758 annually for gas and electricity. The price cap limits the charges for unit rates and standing costs, but the total bill is still influenced by energy consumption. Customers not on fixed energy tariffs fall under the price cap regulations. For pre-payment meter users, the annual cap is now £1,711, while those paying upon receipt of the bill face a yearly charge of £1,894.
