A father, aged 49, was pronounced deceased by fellow climbers on Mount Everest following a severe storm. Beck Weather, hailing from Texas, survived the harrowing ordeal in 1996 with the help of his wife, Peaches, who orchestrated a daring rescue mission to save him from the treacherous mountain slope. Accompanied by expedition leader Rob Hall, Doug Hansen, Andy Harris, Mike Groom, and journalist Jon Krakauer, Beck embarked on the climb in May. However, due to complications from eye surgery that left him almost blind with no depth perception, Beck struggled during the ascent.

Realizing his physical limitations, Beck decided to wait for the group’s return from the summit. Unfortunately, he was left stranded at the same spot for nearly 10 hours, leading to severe frostbite and tissue damage. Despite being declared dead by rescuer Anatoli Boukreev, Stuart Hutchison and three Sherpas discovered him alive the following day. Beck’s miraculous survival astonished his companions, including Jon Krakauer, who was amazed to find Beck alive in the camp.

Peaches, in a remarkable effort, coordinated a high-altitude helicopter rescue to bring Beck back home. Beck underwent extensive surgeries to save his severely damaged hand and reconstruct his nose using tissue from various body parts.
