A young man discovered his mother had passed away on Christmas morning. The previous evening, Louise McKenzie, 38, had visited the doctor and received a diagnosis of a swollen pancreas. Despite being reassured that it was not a serious issue, she and her son Reece Barrett, 18, completed some last-minute holiday shopping before returning home to Bootle, Merseyside.

Later that night, Louise felt unwell, experienced dizziness and a headache, and took a moment to rest. Reece recounted to the Liverpool Echo that he returned home after celebrating with friends, found his mother asleep upstairs, and bid her goodnight. The next morning, Reece discovered his mother unresponsive in the bathroom, leading him to suspect she had passed away. Emergency services were contacted, but unfortunately, Louise was pronounced dead at the scene.

Reece, employed as a civil servant, fondly remembered his mother as a warm, sociable individual who cared for both him and their pet dog. It was determined that Louise likely died from a brain hemorrhage. Reece is currently residing with his girlfriend’s family while making arrangements for his and the dog’s living situation.

Reflecting on the tragic events, Reece expressed regret for not recognizing his mother’s symptoms earlier and seeking medical help. A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated by Holly’s mother, Vicki Bradshaw, to assist Reece in covering his living expenses in the aftermath of his mother’s passing. Reece acknowledged the support, acknowledging the financial challenges he now faces and the necessity of accepting assistance during this difficult period.
