Reform UK has been criticized as a place where former disgraced Conservative ministers find a new home, with another ex-Tory MP recently joining the party. Nadhim Zahawi, who once compared Nigel Farage to Hitler’s chief propagandist, has now officially joined Reform as a Conservative defector, following a trend of high-profile defections to the party. Other notable figures, such as Dame Andrea Jenkyns and former Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries, have also left the Tory party to join Reform. Lee Anderson, the original defector to Reform, now serves as an MP for the party.
The latest addition to Reform, former Chancellor Nadhim Zahawi, faced controversies during his time in Parliament, including a tax investigation that led to his dismissal for breaching the ministerial code. Another defector, Lee Anderson, made headlines for his controversial statements and actions, such as criticizing Sadiq Khan and boycotting England matches. Dame Andrea Jenkyns, a close ally of Boris Johnson, also made the switch to Reform after losing her seat in the General Election.
Several other former Conservative members have also joined Reform, with the party gaining momentum in polls. Notable defectors include Sir David Jones, Sir Jake Berry, Ross Thomson, and Anne Marie Morris, each citing dissatisfaction with the Tory party’s direction as a reason for their departure. The influx of new members, including sitting MPs like Danny Kruger, has bolstered Reform’s presence in Parliament, with a focus on preparing for potential governance in the future.
