An elderly man was apprehended at Tenerife South Airport for attempting to bring his deceased wife in a wheelchair onto a plane. Airport security intervened when they noticed the woman was unresponsive and had a dangerously low body temperature, triggering emergency procedures.
The incident, recently disclosed by Spanish newspaper Diario de Avisos, did not provide specific details such as the date, nationalities of the couple, or the airline involved. The man was seen pushing his wife in a wheelchair, giving the impression of an ordinary elderly couple preparing to board, until suspicions arose after passing through security.
Upon closer examination, a security guard discovered the woman’s lifeless state and promptly alerted authorities. The situation escalated as emergency protocols were activated, leading to the arrival of numerous security personnel, Civil Guard members, and forensic experts at the scene.
Initially, the man claimed his wife had passed away within the airport premises a few hours earlier. However, staff members revealed that he had previously tried to blame the airport for the death. This allegation is currently under investigation by the authorities.
The husband, who was taken into custody, cooperated with the police during the inquiry process. Efforts are underway to unravel the circumstances surrounding the woman’s demise.
