A truck has struck pedestrians repeatedly in a town, with gunshots heard and emergency services responding to the scene.

The incident took place in Gangkou, Zhongshan, China, where witnesses reported that the driver hit multiple people while gunshots were also heard. Video clips circulating online show a white van driving recklessly, colliding with other vehicles while on the wrong side of the road.

In one video, the van is seen reversing after apparently hitting a person on the ground, then moving forward to strike the individual again. An emergency services vehicle with flashing lights can be seen in the vicinity. Throughout the footage, shouts and screams can be heard in response to the actions of the truck driver.

Another clip captures police cars blocking the van and attempting to prevent its escape. Onlookers are shown hitting the van’s windows before managing to enter the vehicle and remove the driver.

Despite numerous social media reports about the incident, the police have not issued a statement. It is alleged that the truck driver tried to breach a blockade, prompting police to open fire in an effort to halt the vehicle. During the escape attempt, the truck hit pedestrians on the street, including an individual riding an electric bike.

Gangkou, located in Guangdong province, is an urban area in southern China known for its port-related commerce. Many social media users have expressed outrage towards the truck driver, with some referencing a tragic event in Zhuhai where 38 people were killed and 48 injured in November 2024 when a driver plowed into a group of people exercising at a sports center.

During that incident, witnesses described bodies strewn across the ground as they rushed to aid the injured before emergency services arrived. The tragic scene unfolded outside the Zhuhai Sports Centre, where witnesses reported that the victims were middle-aged and elderly individuals exercising on the track.

In a statement, the police confirmed that a car had struck multiple pedestrians at the sports center in Xiangzhou District of Zhuhai City and then fled the scene. The driver was later identified as Fan Weiqiu, who was reportedly dissatisfied with a divorce settlement and had previously attempted suicide with a knife.
