A revamped version of the popular talent show Star Search is set to make its debut on Netflix with the premiere of its first live episode scheduled for January 20. The show will feature a distinguished panel of judges, including renowned actress Sarah Michelle Gellar, TV personality Chrissy Teigen, and Grammy-nominated artist Jelly Roll.
Star Search, known for propelling the careers of music icons like Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, and Britney Spears, is making a comeback after more than two decades off the air. The next generation of talented performers will have the chance to showcase their skills and impress the judges as they aim to kickstart their careers in various categories such as music, dance, variety, comedy, and magic.
Hosted by actor Anthony Anderson, the new Star Search will incorporate real-time voting, allowing viewers to have a say in determining which contestants advance to the next rounds. The show will provide a platform for up-and-coming artists to exhibit their talents and potentially follow in the footsteps of past Star Search success stories.
Among the notable figures who kickstarted their careers on the show are Britney Spears, who made her television debut at the age of 10 in the junior vocalist section. Similarly, Christina Aguilera showcased her talent as a junior vocalist in 1990 at around nine years old, while Beyoncé competed with her group Girls Tyme in the singing division during the 90s. Justin Timberlake also participated in the junior vocalist category, and Usher, then known as Usher Raymond, impressed a record label scout with his performance on the show, leading to his eventual signing with LaFace Records.
The return of Star Search on Netflix promises to offer a platform for emerging talent to shine and continue the legacy of discovering and nurturing new stars in the entertainment industry.
