A chip shop owner, Stavros Theodoulou, described as “dangerous and predictable,” has been sentenced to prison for sexually assaulting three teenage girls and two women. The incidents, involving sexual remarks and inappropriate touching, all occurred in Derby where Theodoulou operated the well-known Steves@Etwall chippy for close to ten years.
The crimes came to light in 2023 when one victim came forward, leading to multiple others reporting similar experiences with Theodoulou. In a court statement, a victim expressed ongoing trauma and difficulty in normal life activities due to the abuse suffered. She highlighted the impact on her mental and emotional well-being, emphasizing the lasting effects of the assaults.
Theodoulou, previously residing in Girton Way and now in Hilcote Lane, Alfreton, was arrested and charged with five counts of sexual assault and three firearm possession charges without certification. He pleaded guilty to all charges and received a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence along with an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order, as reported by Derbyshire Live.
Following his legal troubles, Theodoulou announced the closure of Steves@Etwall at the end of 2024 through a heartfelt message on the restaurant’s Facebook page. The closure announcement prompted supportive messages from loyal customers, praising the establishment’s years of service to the community.
Detective Constable Leonie Hitchmough, who oversaw the investigation, commended the victims for their courage in coming forward and reporting Theodoulou’s offenses. She emphasized the significant impact the incidents had on the victims and expressed gratitude for those who spoke out against the perpetrator, potentially preventing further harm.
