Broadband has become an integral part of our daily lives, supporting various activities like streaming entertainment, remote work, home security, and smart home control. The demand for fast and reliable internet access is increasing as households incorporate more internet-connected devices and consume more online content. However, not all internet service providers (ISPs) offer the same level of performance.
According to SpeedGo, a new broadband speed-testing service, Virgin Media leads the UK in average download speeds, reaching an impressive 256.5Mbps. This speed allows for downloading a full HD movie in just over two minutes, significantly faster than the national average. Following Virgin Media, Vodafone ranks second with average download speeds of 175Mbps, and BT (EE) comes in third place. On the lower end of the spectrum, TalkTalk recorded an average speed of nearly 95Mbps.
The rankings for average download speeds in the UK are as follows:
– Virgin Media: 256.5Mbps
– Vodafone: 175.1Mbps
– BT (EE): 122.5Mbps
– Sky Broadband: 113.6Mbps
– TalkTalk: 94.7Mbps
In addition to download speeds, SpeedGo also analyzed upload speeds, which are crucial for users who frequently send large files or work remotely. Vodafone leads in this category with an average upload speed of 83.6Mbps, surpassing Virgin Media, which secured the second spot with 47.2Mbps.
SpeedGo confirmed these results, stating that in 2025, Virgin Media provided the fastest broadband internet in the United Kingdom with an average download speed of 256.5Mbps, while Vodafone achieved the highest average upload speed at 83.6Mbps.
