Police have initiated an investigation into a homicide following the death of a three-month-old infant boy due to a severe head injury.

The infant, Atijus Elertaite, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after law enforcement responded to an incident at a residence in March, Cambridgeshire, on January 3. Officials arrived at the residence on St John’s Chase shortly after 11 a.m., as reported by Cambridgeshire Police.

Tragically, Atijus passed away on January 8, with a preliminary post-mortem examination attributing his death to a head injury, pending further medical evaluations, according to the authorities.

Before the infant’s demise, a 25-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man, both residents of March, were initially detained on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm (GBH). Subsequently, they were re-apprehended on Thursday under suspicion of murder and remain detained.

Detective Inspector Verity McCann expressed, “We understand the local community will be disturbed and deeply saddened, and our sympathies are with those impacted by Atijus’ passing.”

McCann continued, “We are diligently working to ascertain the precise sequence of events and encourage everyone to exercise caution and refrain from speculating on the matter, especially on social media, as this could impede our investigative process.”
