Initially joining in 1994 as a co-presenter for Tomorrow’s World, she departed within a year due to concerns about her involvement in advertisements while on the science and technology program. Returning to the BBC in 2019 as a Saturday morning presenter on Radio Wales, Vorderman left four years later following disputes over her social media posts critical of the government.

During an Off Air podcast, Vorderman discussed her BBC dismissals linked to her vocal opinions on the Conservative government. She proudly stated being sacked twice by the BBC and even had a badge made to commemorate the distinction. Reflecting on her career journey, Vorderman highlighted her resilience, citing her diversified ventures outside the BBC, including her production company and hosting Channel 4’s successful show, Countdown.

Despite being approached by the BBC to host Tomorrow’s World, Vorderman declined the offer due to a significant pay gap compared to her work on Countdown. Recalling the pressure to leave Countdown for a prime-time role, she adamantly refused, leading to conflicts with BBC management. Vorderman mentioned being let go by the broadcaster for endorsing washing powder in commercials, while other BBC figures engaged in similar activities without repercussions.

Although the BBC later extended a job offer, Vorderman rejected it, feeling slighted by their previous actions. She recounted a strategy to mislead the BBC about her return, only to reject them last minute, citing an inability to compromise her principles. Vorderman expressed her dissatisfaction with the BBC’s handling of her situation, emphasizing her commitment to standing by her beliefs.
