“Feline Fatality: Cat Dies in Care of Disturbed Individual”

Published on

A disturbed individual caring for animals caused the death of a cat within a day of taking responsibility for it, claiming to have lost control during the attack. Chloe Stanley, also known as McNally, experienced a sudden outburst of anger leading to the tragic incident, as detailed in Newcastle Crown Court. The 22-year-old, residing in North Shields, agreed to care for the cat after its owner sought assistance. The previous owner had difficulties with the cat, named Ash, and upon seeking advice from a charity, was advised to consider euthanasia.

Turning to Stanley, who presented herself as a behaviorist, the owner connected with her through the Pets for Homes platform. However, within 24 hours of Ash being in Stanley’s care, the cat passed away on December 2. Concerns arose about the cat on December 5, prompting a police visit to Stanley’s residence. During the interaction with law enforcement, she provided a feeble justification for the tragic incident.

According to Kate Barnes, the prosecutor, Stanley’s response indicated that she felt provoked by the cat’s behavior towards her and other cats under her care, leading to a loss of awareness during the attack. The cat’s previous owner noticed unusual behavior from Stanley, as reported by Chronicle Live. On November 30, 2024, Stanley visited the owner’s home to collect Ash. Concerns arose as Stanley displayed hostile actions towards Ash, causing distress to the cat. Despite reservations from the owner and her mother-in-law, Stanley insisted on taking Ash.

Following the cat’s transfer, Stanley sent unsettling videos and photos to the previous owner, eventually revealing that Ash had died and had been taken to a veterinary clinic. Upon her arrest for suspected animal cruelty, Stanley admitted to her actions but concealed the truth from the previous owner regarding Ash’s demise.

Stanley confessed to using a dog slip lead to cause Ash’s death. A post-mortem examination indicated that Ash was in good health before the incident, displaying injuries and bleeding consistent with a physical attack. The doctor’s assessment suggested that the cat endured intense suffering leading to unconsciousness, stating that the suffering could have been prevented.

In court, Stanley pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to an animal and received a 10-month suspended sentence for two years. Additionally, she was prohibited from owning animals for a decade. Judge Stephen Earl condemned her actions, highlighting the severity of causing harm to a defenseless creature. He emphasized the significant force used to inflict suffering on Ash, deeming her actions reprehensible in a civilized society.

Stanley’s defense attorney, Jane Foley, cited her client’s immaturity, mental health challenges, tumultuous life experiences, and the need for assistance and support.
