A tragic incident occurred at an Olive Garden restaurant in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, where a restaurant worker lost his life by diving headfirst into a deep fryer. The man, whose identity remains undisclosed, undressed within the kitchen before immersing himself in the vat of hot oil, believed to be a suicide attempt.
Emergency services reported that the man removed his clothing and leaped “headfirst into the fryers,” with Pennsylvania State Police confirming the incident as a suicide attempt. The man’s identity was not disclosed out of respect for him and his family.
During the distressing event, colleagues of the man sustained minor injuries while trying to rescue him from the deep fryer. A female employee suffered burns during the rescue efforts. The Olive Garden restaurant was closed for several days following the tragic incident.
The authorities refrained from releasing further details, with Police Officer Lauren Lesher stating, “This incident was a suicide attempt, and out of respect for the individual and their family, we do not release information.”
The Olive Garden management declined to comment, citing privacy laws. Emergency audio recordings revealed the chaotic scene, with dispatchers describing the situation as a burn victim and a male victim who went headfirst into the fryers. The injured employee was transported to the hospital but unfortunately succumbed to the injuries.
In a separate incident last July in Sabaudia, Italy, a waiter at an Italian restaurant choked to death on a piece of mozzarella during his meal break. Despite efforts to save him, the waiter suffered a heart attack and passed away.
