Two weather warnings for snow issued by the Met Office will take effect tomorrow, impacting a significant portion of the UK. Residents are advised to prepare essential emergency supplies.
The first warning, announced at 10am on Tuesday, covers Wales, Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire, and a large part of the West Midlands. This yellow warning for snow will be in place from 4pm on Wednesday until 6am on Thursday.
Individuals in the affected areas should anticipate disruptions, including travel delays, stranded vehicles, and potential rail and air travel disruptions. Up to 15cm of snowfall is expected in certain rural areas, with a possibility of power outages.
The Met Office mentioned that snow accumulation of 2-5 cm is likely above 150-200 meters, with higher amounts reaching 10-15 cm above 250-300 meters in specific regions. Additionally, lower elevations may see small snow accumulations, especially from Wednesday evening to early Thursday morning.
Strong east to northeasterly winds accompanying the weather system could worsen conditions in some areas. Another warning covering Northern Ireland was issued at 7:45pm on Tuesday, with the risk of rain and snow lasting from 4am to 8pm on Wednesday.
The Met Office emphasized the potential travel disruptions due to rain, hill snow, and strong winds during Wednesday. Drivers are advised to prepare by collecting warm clothing, food, water, a blanket, a torch, an ice scraper/de-icer, a warning triangle, a high visibility vest, and an in-car phone charger.
In addition, a third yellow warning for rain is in place for southwest England and the entire south coast from 6am on Wednesday to 8am on Thursday. Residents in London & South East England, South West England, Wales, West Midlands, and Northern Ireland are urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions.
