A British couple is facing a 10-year sentence in a challenging prison, as confirmed by their family. Lindsay and Craig Foreman were apprehended in Iran in January 2025 during their global motorcycle expedition and are currently detained on espionage charges in Tehran’s Evin prison.

Despite denying the accusations, the East Sussex couple’s well-being is a significant concern for their relatives. Lindsay’s son, Joe Bennett, has urged the UK government to swiftly intervene to secure their release. Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper has criticized the 10-year prison term as “completely unjustifiable” and vowed to relentlessly pursue the case with the Iranian authorities until the Foremans are safely returned home.

Expressing deep concerns over the lack of transparency in the legal proceedings, Bennett emphasized that his parents were sentenced to a decade in prison after a brief three-hour trial where they were denied the opportunity to present a defense. He stressed the lack of evidence supporting the espionage charges and called for decisive action from the UK Government to bring his parents back.

Former detainee Anoosheh Ashoori and activist Richard Ratcliffe, who campaigned for Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s release, joined Bennett earlier this year to petition the Government for more efforts in freeing the couple. Craig Foreman, reflecting on his time in confinement, pleaded for assistance from the UK Government, highlighting the emotional and physical toll of solitary confinement.

The couple is scheduled to appear before a Tehran court soon. Craig Foreman expressed the importance of their infrequent meetings in sustaining him, emphasizing his deep love for his wife and the critical role of their visits in enduring their current situation.
