Households in various parts of Britain could witness an unusual winter event in the upcoming weekend, as snowfall is expected in regions that typically do not experience such weather phenomena.
According to meteorological data from WXCharts, on Saturday, the 28th of February, Scotland may see significant snowfall, with projections suggesting up to 64cm of snow in certain areas. Additionally, there are forecasts indicating a chance of light snow reaching southern regions, with around 2cm expected just north of Plymouth in Devon.
Residents in Southampton, Hampshire, might also wake up to a dusting of snow if the weather predictions hold true. However, Scotland is anticipated to face the most severe conditions, particularly in central areas near Perth, where a substantial 64cm layer of snow could cover roads as temperatures drop to around 0C.
People are advised to prepare for potentially disruptive weather conditions and exercise caution when traveling. Other parts of the UK, including London and Cornwall, are expected to experience temperatures ranging from 3C to 6C. However, slightly milder temperatures of 7C are forecasted for Lincoln and Hull.
The Met Office’s long-range forecast for the same day indicates that the weather will be changeable, with Atlantic frontal systems bringing rain or showers, mostly over western regions. Strong winds may also occur, especially in the west, while temperatures are likely to be near or above average for the period, with a possibility of cooler weather around the turn of the month.
Following an extension of a yellow snow warning by the Met Office for 32 areas, residents are urged to prepare for heavy snowfall due to Storm Pedro, which is expected to bring wintry showers and heavy rain. The warning, effective from yesterday and continuing into today, highlights the potential for treacherous road conditions, travel disruptions, and power outages in rural communities.
Areas in Wales, central England, and the southern Pennines are at risk of snowfall until early morning, with icy stretches developing across Wales and parts of the West Midlands, posing a risk of slips and falls.
