Renowned chef Prue Leith has revealed the key to her youthful appearance, attributing it to a particular factor that has notably boosted her libido. Earlier this year, Prue disclosed her decision to depart from The Great British Bake Off, a popular Channel 4 show she had been a part of since 2017, citing her advancing age as a factor in her choice to step down.
However, despite her age, the 86-year-old South African-British restaurateur, set to be succeeded by celebrity chef Nigella Lawson, seems undeterred when it comes to her personal life. Recently, she openly discussed the importance of intimacy in relationships among older individuals, sharing that a medication has enhanced her libido.
Prue mentioned in an interview, “I inquired with a doctor about what’s considered normal. She informed me that there are no definitive studies due to the common assumption that people of my age group lack interest. Personally, I believe I wouldn’t be as active without hormone replacement therapy (HRT). When people ask me about my youthful appearance and work ethic, that’s the secret.”
Having started HRT following a hysterectomy at age 40, Prue, married to John Playfair, expressed her intent to continue using it despite potential associations with breast cancer. Ceasing its use, she fears, would result in severe menopausal symptoms in her 80s, which she anticipates would be challenging.
In addition to progesterone tablets and estrogen patches, Prue reportedly uses small doses of testosterone gel, a medication she credits for its positive impact on her libido. Speaking to Saga Magazine, she emphasized the benefits of the treatment, highlighting that it makes her feel rejuvenated and more vibrant.
Like any medication, hormone replacement therapy can have side effects. The NHS provides detailed information on HRT, including its risks and benefits, to help individuals make informed decisions regarding its use.
A familiar face on The Great British Bake Off alongside co-judge Paul Hollywood, Prue, residing in Oxfordshire, recently discussed her successor on BBC Radio Oxford. When asked for advice for Nigella, she praised her, stating, “She’s incredibly talented and will bring a fresh perspective to the show. She’s witty, knowledgeable, and delightful.”
Reflecting on her departure, Prue admitted to The Spectator that she had been contemplating when to step down from the show for quite some time. She shared, “I’ve been indecisive about leaving The Great British Bake Off for years. Upon joining nine years ago, I initially thought, given my age in my mid-seventies, that I might only manage a couple of years.”
She humorously added, “At that age, my mother was quite deaf and often confused, believing her son was her father and her pet cat was one she had decades ago.”
