Jeremy Corbyn has been elected as the parliamentary leader of the newly formed left-wing Your Party. The party’s executive committee, composed of 24 members, saw Mr. Corbyn’s slate, ‘The Many,’ secure 14 positions, while Zarah Sultana’s supporters gained seven seats. This outcome positions Mr. Corbyn to lead the party in a shift away from internal conflicts that marked its inception.

With a voter turnout of 61%, totaling 25,347 out of 40,985 verified members, the election also saw former Labour MP Laura Smith elected as one of the party’s four public office holders. Mr. Corbyn, who stepped down as the Labour leader in 2020, expressed readiness to collaborate with all Your Party members to enact a progressive agenda for the UK following the successful control of the leadership committee by his supporters.

In his statement, Mr. Corbyn emphasized the need for unity within the party to advance a socialist agenda that challenges mainstream political figures. He urged members to work together towards a vision of a more compassionate, equitable, and peaceful society. Stressing the importance of solidarity in combating fear, division, and racism, he called for collective action centered on principles of redistribution and peace to address societal issues and unite the party’s diverse membership.
