Rob Grant, the writer and co-creator of the popular sitcom “Red Dwarf,” has passed away at the age of 70. His family confirmed the sudden death, expressing deep sadness over the loss. Craig Charles, known for his role as Dave Lister in the show, paid tribute to Grant, highlighting his humor and vision.
“Red Dwarf,” created by Grant and Doug Naylor, debuted on BBC2 in 1998 and quickly became a beloved British sitcom. Grant had been collaborating with Andrew Marshall on the first “Red Dwarf” novel in three decades, titled “Red Dwarf: Titan,” set to be released in July.
In an interview with Radio Times, Grant discussed the upcoming novel, revealing it would explore Lister and Rimmer’s adventures on Titan before the main storyline. He also touched on the legal battles surrounding the rights to “Red Dwarf” and the challenges of creating a spin-off due to high production costs.
Despite plans for a new special episode of “Red Dwarf,” it was ultimately canceled, leaving fans disappointed. Doug Naylor, who was well into the scriptwriting process, shared the news of the cancellation in a Reddit Q&A session, citing UKTV’s decision to halt scripted comedy projects.
The passing of Rob Grant marks a significant loss in the entertainment industry, leaving behind a legacy of creativity and humor cherished by fans worldwide.
