“UK Nationals in Dubai Face Uncertainty Amid Missile Strikes”

Published on

British tourists and expatriates in Dubai are facing uncertainty and disruption following a series of missile attacks in the region today. Israel and the US carried out a coordinated strike on various Iranian cities, prompting retaliatory actions from Iran on US and Israeli military bases in the Middle East, including the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.

The escalating political tensions have raised concerns for British individuals in Dubai, where approximately 240,000 British nationals reside. Travelers have been advised to take shelter, and flights at Dubai International Airport have been suspended, causing significant travel disruptions.

Reports indicate that Iran targeted Dubai among other locations, with the UAE Ministry of Defence intercepting Iranian missiles and drones. Despite these defensive measures, a fire broke out at the renowned Fairmont Hotel in Dubai, reportedly triggered by debris from a missile strike.

Emergency services responded promptly to the incident, announcing that the situation is now under control with four reported injuries. Tragically, one person was killed in Abu Dhabi due to falling debris from the morning’s strike. The Emirati defense ministry confirmed the interception of missiles and drones and addressed the debris fallout in Abu Dhabi.

The suspension of flight operations at Dubai’s international airports has impacted thousands of British travelers, with airlines like British Airways and Wizz Air affected. Both Dubai Airports and Emirates airline have issued statements advising passengers to check for flight updates before heading to the airport.

The UK government has issued warnings to British nationals in Dubai, urging them to seek shelter and follow local authorities’ instructions due to the heightened regional tensions. The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) emphasized the risk of terrorist attacks globally, including in the United Arab Emirates.

British individuals are advised to stay informed through local media, ensure travel documents are up to date, and seek shelter in secure buildings if necessary. The FCDO highlighted the indiscriminate nature of potential attacks and the threats posed to Western interests in the Gulf region, including those of UK citizens.
