Soham child murderer Ian Huntley faced a dangerous situation due to his decision to focus on his physical fitness while incarcerated. Huntley, aged 52, attracted unwanted attention by embarking on a weight gain journey behind bars. This shift in his appearance prompted concerns about his safety, leading to a diet plan and personal training sessions to help him shed the extra pounds.
Reports suggest that Huntley’s concern over potential food tampering in prison led him to replace meals with unhealthy snacks like crisps, contributing to his weight gain. His increased gym visits and healthcare wing appointments at HMP Frankland meant more exposure within the prison community, making him a noticeable figure.
According to an undisclosed source cited by The Daily Mail, Huntley’s attempt to improve his health inadvertently made him a target for other inmates. The source explained that Huntley’s noticeable physical transformation and increased movement within the prison made him vulnerable to attacks.
On a Thursday morning, Huntley was viciously assaulted with a metal pole in a workshop at the Durham prison, resulting in critical injuries. Despite a slim chance of survival, he was rushed to the hospital for urgent treatment. Durham Constabulary provided an update stating that Huntley remained in serious condition with no changes overnight, promising further information soon.
The suspected assailant in the attack is Anthony Russell, a convicted triple murderer serving a whole-life order since 2022. Russell allegedly declared his involvement in the assault by stating, “I’ve killed him,” upon discovering Huntley injured. Authorities are actively investigating the incident and have not officially confirmed Russell as the perpetrator.
