The Actor Awards on Sunday saw “Sinners” star Delroy Lindo thinking on his feet as he accepted the accolade for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. The event, which was streamed on Netflix, honored the Sinners ensemble, including Michael B. Jordan, Wunmi Mosaku, and Hailee Steinfeld, among others.
During his acceptance speech, Lindo, standing with his cast mates, spontaneously addressed the audience, praising the journey crafted by Ryan Coogler. He expressed gratitude for the acknowledgment and the opportunity to bring their hearts and spirits to the project.
As the ceremony progressed, Delroy Lindo acknowledged Warner Bros. executives and his co-stars before playfully resisting prompts to conclude his speech. He concluded with a heartfelt thank you, emphasizing the collective appreciation felt by the cast.
The night also marked the recognition of the Southern Gothic vampire thriller with five Actor Awards nominations. This celebration, however, followed a recent incident at the BAFTAs involving Delroy Lindo and Michael B. Jordan, where a derogatory term was shouted during their presentation.
Despite the mishap, Lindo and Jordan handled the situation with grace. The BBC faced criticism for not editing out the racial slur, which had been involuntarily uttered by a person with Tourette’s Syndrome attending the event. The individual expressed deep remorse for the incident in a post-ceremony statement.
