Major airlines have announced that flights to and from countries in the Middle East will continue to be grounded due to the ongoing conflict in the region. According to flight analytics firm Cirium, a total of 539 flights from the UK to the Middle East are expected to be canceled in the coming week, affecting 180,008 seats. The daily cancellation rate is estimated to be over 70 flights from the UK to the region. As of today, 49 UK flights to the Middle East have already been canceled.
On a global scale, 1,555 flights to the Middle East have been canceled as of 10 am today. Over the weekend, a significant number of flights were grounded, with 2,800 cancellations on Saturday and 3,156 on Sunday. Airspace over several Middle Eastern countries, including Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Israel, Bahrain, the UAE, and Qatar, remains largely empty, as reported by the flight tracking website Flightradar24.
Travel and aviation expert Paul Charles, from the PC Agency, highlighted the extensive impact of the flight disruptions caused by the conflict. He pointed out that millions of people were affected in just one day based on Cirium data. Paul emphasized the challenges faced by airlines with stranded planes worldwide and the significant financial losses incurred due to disrupted trade and tourism.
